Juliana Piskorz

Piskorz’s practice explores the business of life, from the mundane to the performative, searching for the colour and glimmers of dynamism in the innocuous spaces and the pauses in between.

Using primarily oil pastels, pen, pencils and watercolour Piskorz’s work seeks to elevate the impact of these traditionally quotidian materials, focusing on the grand narratives present in fine detail rather than scale. Piskorz has been heavily influenced by her upbringing in London, where the urban epicentre meanders between greenery and asphalt, studded with towerblocks that appear grey and dismal in the rain and like beacons of light in the golden evening sun. It is this dichotomy that underpins Piskorz’s work, her practice is concerned with capturing the energy and divinity in the moments and the places where it is not immediately apparent.

Piskorz studied English at the University of Leeds before training as a journalist at City, University of London and subsequently writing for several national magazines and newspapers including, The Observer, The Evening Standard Magazine, The Independent, Refinery29, The Face, Vogue, Garage Magazine, Dazed, The Sunday Times Style among others.
